Places
A different kind of morning
The café opens before the street quite wakes up. There is the sound of cups, a quiet exchange at the counter, a chair pulled back for someone who has been coming here for years.\n\nIt is easy to describe a place by what it sells. It takes a little more attention to notice what it makes possible: a pause between appointments, a familiar face, a conversation that was not on the day’s agenda.\n\nPerhaps that is why we return. Not only for the coffee, but for the small sense that there is room for us.

Notes from the journey
A small observation can become a whole story.
Field notes
Notes from the week
Look for the detail that changes a familiar scene.\n\nA hand-written sign in a shop window. A garden that has found its way around a fence. The colour of a room just before sunset.\n\nNone of these needs to become a grand story. Sometimes a note is enough: something seen, something remembered, something to return to.
